Artists Kathryn Pitt and Ann Zumwinkle have distinctly different creative approaches, but in their first meeting their vision for their book was formed. They realized they had something important to say as long as it was with a large dose of fun. Their theme would be Consumption – how do we consume and who consumes us? – and the book would come in a box that you open like a surprise. The ideal vessel, a pizza box, a familiar symbol of our fast, disposable culture. As if you had ordered a traditional Margarita pizza, inside the box you find ‘slices’ of art. Nine ‘art pizzas’, each tackling different facets of social consumption, are divided into six slices. The slices are bound together to allow the viewer to interact with the piece. By mixing and matching the slices, the viewer can create their own visual combinations to reimagine the artwork.Kathryn’s pizzas were made solely by her but Ann’s pizzas were done in collaboration with 140 community participants.A digital component extends the experience online via QR code. COMING FEBRUARY 26!
